What a day! First thing in the morning David called the inspection place in Sylva to be sure they could do our inspection and found out that no, they could only do the safety inspection but not the emissions inspection. David asked her if she could recommend another place and she found one about 15 miles away that could do both inspections AND there was a DMV office directly across the street so if the car passed inspection, we could get our new registration and tag all in the same day. Wow! Could that really happen???
Turns out that to drive from Sevierville, TN to Sylva, NC, the highway goes straight through the Smokey Mountains National Park! It was an absolutely gorgeous drive! The mountains and the vistas are unbelievable. And as a bonus, I got another stamp in my National Park Passport!
Amazingly enough, it all worked out! We found the inspection place and the car passed. The DMV was truly directly across the street and we walked in and walked out 5 minutes later with the new registration and tag. No line, no wait, nothing. We couldn't even believe we actually were able to do both things in one day. Whew!
The drive back was even more beautiful because there were fewer cars so you could slow down and enjoy it. What a wonderful day.
This is where David and I pretended we walked the Applachian Trail!
We just had leftovers for dinner and finished the laundry because tomorrow we are moving on. We hate to leave Johnny and his log cabin but we will be back!!!
